The inaugural meeting of the Barney, Fulmodestone and Thursford Horticultural Society was held on Saturday October 11th 1941.

On 8th December 1941 a letter was read out at the Parish Council Meeting from the Secretary of the Norfolk Home Food Front (the Dig for Victory campaign which was an answer to the threat of starvation posed by the Second World War) urging the formation of a Food Production Club which extended the remit beyond horticulture and allowed for the establishment of pig and rabbit clubs, among other things.

It was agreed that a Barney, Fulmodestone & Thursford Food Production Club be formed and its officers and committee members to be those of the recently formed Horticultural Society - the Society soon became subsumed into the new Club. Rabbit & Pig clubs were also established.

It was also "resolved that the Ministry of Agriculture's model rules for Village Associations be adopted"

The Club's status as the Barney & District Village Produce Association made it an "Approved Association" under the Land Fertility Scheme.

The Club used both titles until the mid-1950s when the current name finally took full precedence.

Since then the Club has evolved to embrace all aspects of gardening, crafting, baking and more with giving an annual programme of events and activities throughout the year, including Social Activities, local Talks, an Annual Plat Sale as well as the Annual Show.

The Annual Show has been a highlight of every year with displays of flowers, plants, fruit and vegetables. Preserved items continue to be a feature of the Show as do domestic classes - cookery and handicrafts. Most recently a homemade upcycled item has been part of the Show.

Other well supported events include the Annual Seed Swap Social and the Annual Plant Sale. The Sale is the main source of income for the Club.
